The police this afternoon arraigned the fifth person in connection with last weekend's 8.5-kilogram cannabis haul.

The 23-year-old man from Zabbar, who cannot be named by court order, was charged with conspiracy to deal in drugs, cannabis trafficking and possession. He denied the charges and Magistrate Doreen Clarke remanded him in custody.

Lawyer Giannella de Marco appeared for the man.

Earlier this week, the police charged a 16-year-old boy, also from Zabbar, as well as Slovenian Kristijan Zekic, 32, and 45-year-old Anna Gertrude D'Amico and her brother Antonio, 55, both from Catania.

Drug Squad police on Sunday afternoon swooped in on a garage where they found eight-and-a-half kilograms of cannabis.
