FIFA’s investigatory chamber has opened proceedings against a FIFA match agent who last month pleaded guilty in a New York court to four charges relating to bribing officials.

Florida-based Miguel Trujillo appeared in a Brooklyn court on March 8 as part of an ongoing investigation into corruption in international football being led by the United States attorney’s office.

The 65-year-old Colombian was licensed by FIFA to arrange matches between its member associations.

A statement from FIFA’s independent ethics committee read: “Having examined all of the relevant evidence and based on Miguel Trujillo’s guilty plea before the federal court in New York, the investigatory chamber has opened formal proceedings against Mr Trujillo.

“As a licensed FIFA match agent, he was bound by the FIFA code of ethics.

“The investigatory chamber will investigate payments from Mr Trujillo to several football officials.

“Meanwhile, the chairman of the investigatory chamber, Dr Cornel Borbely, will lead the investigation proceedings as the chief of the investigation.”
