The Malta Allied Airgunners Club (MAAC) marked the recent approval as an authorised target shooter organisation, licensed for TS-B airgun shooting sports, with a first match at the Victoria Shooters Range, limits of Tal-Ħandaq, on Sunday.

The match was an air rifle field target shoot. Field target is one of the most popular air rifle shooting sports in Europe and the US.

In this competition, participants had to shoot on 30 metal knock-down targets from distances of 15 to 50 metres. Each target has a 'hit zone' of 40mm in diametre with points attached according to the score.

Each target has an assigned shooting position and the sport is governed by international rules.

At Tal-Ħandaq, 15 shooters took part. In very hot conditions, Alfred Cini finished first with a score of 23/30. David Giardina was second, 20/30, and Eric Camilleri third, 16/30.

Present for the occasion was Saviour Portelli, Malta Shooting Sports Federation (MSSF) president. The MAAC is affiliated to the federation and the MSSF is recognised as the local governing body for the European Rimfire and Airrifle Benchrest Shooting Federation (ERABSF).

Also present for Sunday's shoot was Mark Cassar from the Association of Arms Collectors and Target Shooters (AACTS).

The next MAAC event, the popular air rifle bench rest, is scheduled for September 28, also at Tal-Ħandaq range.
