A course will be held on Thursday by the Foundation for Human Resources Development (FHRD) in partnership with the Institute of Health and Safety (IHS). The course, entitled 'Certificate in risk assessment', will be given between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the foundation's premises in San Ġwann.

Employers and the self-employed have a legal duty to assess health and safety risks. Anyone carrying out a risk assessment needs to have the necessary skills and knowledge. This course is designed to ensure that those involved in risk assessment have the necessary depth of understanding to make an effective contribution.

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to: understand the legal and practical reasons for risk assessment and the benefits that arise from them; understand the basic principles of risk assessment; appreciate how risk can be quantified and controlled; carry out a basic risk assessment; understand the limitations of their personal knowledge and when to seek assistance.

Chris Hudson will conduct the course.

Cheques are to be made payable to the Institute of Health and Safety and sent to the Institute at Martin Court, University Street, Msida.
