Several cars were damaged in Fgura last night because of trenches left open by a private contractor, whom mayor Byron Camilleri has requested the police to prosecute and Transport Malta to take action against.

In a statement this afternoon, Dr Camilleri said works without the council’s permit, were carried out in the past days.

Roads were closed without permit as  a result of these works and without the assistance usually provided by local wardens, with congestion being created as a result.

Moreover, the same contractor left trenches open last night and many cars were damaged as a result.
