Villagers in Cambridgeshire staging an open gardens festival on Sunday have decided they cannot beat World Cup fever.

Locals in Shepreth say they will not only let visitors tour their gardens - but also invite them into their homes to watch England's footballers play in the World Cup.

More than a dozen villagers are opening their gardens between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to raise cash for Shepreth's 100-year-old village hall.

"We'll never beat 'em so we've decided to join 'em," said organiser Jenny Ravenhill.

"They can tour the gardens and watch the game with us - we might even throw in a beer!"
