More than any other festival, what turns Uruguayans out in the streets is their shared love of yesteryear.

The “Nostalgia Festival”, held every August 24, is an all-night tribute to the tunes of the past.

But this year, the country that loves to look backwards is particularly proud of today, notably its semi-final showing in the recent football World Cup.

That performance has clipped the melancholy of the music event, replacing it with sporting cheer.
