Żurrieq returned to its fishing roots yesterday as it showcased a variety of fresh Mediterranean fish and seafood.

As expected, the fish fest, or Festival tal-Ħut, attracted huge crowds. Amid the hustle and bustle in the main square, the red carpet was rolled outside the parish church for a wedding.

Now in its second year, the festival also included traditional handcrafts and food displayed in a number of stalls.

Children had the opportunity to ride on the giant horses of the police mounted section, of course always under the watchful eye of their parents and police officers.

There was brisk business as visitors purchased fresh vegetables and fish with entertainment provided by traditional folk singers and their għana.

An underground shelter dating back to World War II was also open for public viewing.
