The festival at Mdina which attracted thousands of Maltese families and tourists yesterday continues today.

The silent city this weekend has taken a medieval look for a two-day festival of flowers and pageantry aimed at giving visitors a glimpse of what the silent city might have looked like, well before the arrival of the Knights.

Meanwhile, at nearby Girgenti, the Inquisitors' Palace remians open for viewing in a fund-raising event in aid of the Mental Health Association, Richmond Foundation and Friends of Mount Carmel Hospital Society .

Both events start at 10 a.m.

At Mdina, activities kick off with the re-enactment of the city door by the militia.

There is medieval music, singing, street performances and historic re-enactments, along the narrow streets up to 10 p.m.

Several parts of the city, notably the main gate and the main street, are decorated with flowers.

A scale model of medieval Mdina is on display at the Torre dello Standardo, near the main gate, while works of art are being displayed at the various chapels and at the Carmelite Priory Museum and the council offices.

Medieval trades and traditions came to the fore at a small market set up at Mesquita Square, and medieval food is on sale in the city moat. There are also be medieval games.

Medieval 'knights' battled with their swords at St Paul's Square at 10.30 a.m. and will be repeating their performance between 4 and 4.30 p.m. The Siggiewi Falconry displayed its brids at St Paul Square. Other 'fights' are on display at Bastions Square.

A medieval re-enactment of the Black Plague will take place in various streets at 7-8 p.m. and fire jugglers will showcase their skills in St Paul Square at 8 p.m.

An all day park and ride service has been laid on from Ta' Qali.
