Formula One giants Ferrari have been spared further punishment for giving drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa team orders during the German Grand Prix.

Ferrari was fined $100,000 by stewards after Felipe Massa appeared to be given coded instructions to let team-mate Alonso overtake him, thus winning the German grand prix.

The FIA, the motorsport governing body in a meeting this afternoon decided not to impose further penalties and ordered a review of the rules which ban team orders.

Ferrari officials denied issuing team orders and said they only issued information to Massa on Alonso's situation.

Massa was told that Alonso was faster than him.
