The Finance MInistry's decision to withdraw the 50c per night accommodation tax has been welcomed by the Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations Malta (Feltom).
In a statement, Feltom endorsed the proposals submitted by the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) which suggested that all non Maltese visitors to the islands paid a standard €3.50 eco-contribution, irrelevant of the length of stay.
This contribution could be paid by means of a voucher and be presented at the point of departure. Such vouchers could be made available for sale through tourist information offices, post offices, hotels, travel agents and other similar points.
As bookings for the summer months were now well advanced, the federation believed that clients should be given details of the existence of this contribution and how it could be paid at least six months before their arrival.
