The feed in tariffs scheme for industrial and commercial scale installations which expired on June 30 have been extended for three months pending their replacement.

The Energy Ministry said that in its efforts to ensure continuity as well as support Malta’s efforts towards reaching its 2020 Renewable Energy targets, it would launch a set of new feed in tariffs applicable to such installations. These will compliment the ongoing grant scheme for residential installations, which is still open.

The new feed in tariffs shall maintain a four tier structure and each tier shall be capped to 4MWp.

"Whilst the ministry is aware that PV system prices have fallen since the inception of the current feed in tariff schemes, it is still too early to assess the market impact of the impending higher anti dumping tariffs which should become effective on August 6, 2013. Hence it has been decided that the validity of this extension is for three months, and ends on September 30, 2013. This will provide sufficient time for feasible projects which are still being processed to benefit from the new feed in tariffs," the ministry said.
