World number one Roger Federer stormed into the third round of the Monte Carlo Open with a 6-0 6-1 demolition of Spanish baseliner Alberto Martin yesterday.
Rafael Nadal, the titleholder and world number two, was equally impressive, crushing Monaco's wild card entrant Jean-Rene Lisnard 6-4 6-1.
Federer, who dropped a set against qualifier Novak Djokovic in the first round, played close to perfection, needing just 46 minutes to sweep aside Martin.
The top seed is beginning his warm-up for the highlight of the claycourt season and the only grand slam tournament to elude him, the French Open starting on May 28.
