While the December 8 edition, I am sure, needed several trees felled to contain so many pages, most of them about the rest of the world and “news” which could be found elsewhere on the internet, the only mention of the Feast of Our Lady Conceived Without Sin was by default in a letter to the editor which had alongside it, courtesy of whom we readers were not made aware of, the lovely street decorations at Cospicua, one of which was positioned 30 centimetres too far into the pavement.

I think the paper’s ignoring of the Cospicua feast and printing this “needle in the haystack” letter speaks volumes about the present editorial policy of The Times. Why did not the photographer and reporter tour Cospicua to see that potholes in residential and access roads are practically non-existent? The city is well looked after and this is surely due to a caring local council and the residents themselves, not to mention the lovely festive atmosphere on December 8 in Cospicua, both in the well decked-out parish church as well as outside in the streets. I think by not covering the Cospicua feast the newspaper let its readers down. It might surprise some of its out-of-touch managers that, yes, several Gozitans come to Malta regularly and are pleased to join in what is on offer on the main island.

Thankfully, on the day, another daily (In-Nazzjon) gave extensive coverage to the Kunċizzjoni celebrations in different localities and so one was not at a loss for choice.
