An age-old tradition was rekindled yesterday with the lighting of a large bonfire on the Valletta bastions to mark the feast of St John the Baptist, patron saint of the Order of St John. When the order ruled Malta, great public festivities were reserved for the occasion. Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna was behind yesterday’s event, held on what is known as St John’s Eve, with the feast falling today.
