A new wooden statue of the flagellation of Jesus Christ was officially inaugurated at St George’s Basilica in Victoria yesterday.

The statue, The Flagellation of Our Lord, commissioned by the basilica’s Good Friday Committee and produced by sculptor Michael Camilleri Cauchi and his son Adonai, will form part of the set of statues for the Passion procession, which includes the Holy Crucifix by Pietru Pawl Azzopardi (1848).

The new statue is carved in utile and swietenia mahagony which is over 35 years old. Carpenter Ino Attard made the wooden column.
