The Farsons Foundation has sponsored the Press Photography Category of the 20th edition of the Malta Journalism Awards.

Through the Press Photography category of the Malta Journalism Awards, the Institute of Maltese Journalists recognises the best Maltese press photographic work during the past year and sets a higher benchmark for press photographers to achieve during the current year, foundation chairman Bryan Gera said.

Mr Gera presented the sponsorship to Joe Vella, council secretary of the Institute of Maltese Journalists.

"If there is a Malta Journalism Awards category which, year on year since it has been established in 1992, has irrevocably gone from strength to strength, this is the press photography category," Mr Vella remarked.

"Competition is stiff as judges seek a strong balance of aesthetics with strong journalistic content that reflects the news events, personalities, and social issues through the press photographers' respective submissions. Over the years, this category has recognised and honoured Malta's top press photographers," he said.

The awards comprise 14 categories in print, broadcasting and other media. The awards ceremony will be held at The Palace Hotel, Sliema, in May.
