In a company announcement issued on Wednesday, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc announced that it has signed the Preliminary Agreement with Law Quintano & Co. Ltd for the acquisition of the assets of its food importation business. It will be managed as a completely separate entity to the other Farsons Group subsidiary companies and all employees of Law Quintano & Co. Ltd will be offered employment with the new company.

Bank of Valletta shares opened the week's trading at Lm3.080 on Tuesday and closed the week at Lm3.175 yesterday. Total turnover amounted to 39,800 shares changing hands over 38 deals. Following close of business yesterday best bids for 2,281 shares at Lm3.13 and best offers of 1,084 shares at Lm3.175 remained outstanding.

Maltacom shares opened the week at Lm1.406 on Monday, went down to Lm1.351 before going up again to close yesterday's session at Lm1.41. Total turnover amounted to 134,435 shares changing hands over 68 deals. Following yesterday's session, 8,000 shares at Lm1.372 and 3,000 shares at Lm1.40 were the best unsatisfied bids and offers respectively.

Meanwhile, HSBC Bank Malta opened trading at Lm5.94 and went up to close the week's trading at Lm5.98 yesterday. A total of 48,320 shares changed hands over the week, spread over 23 deals. Following yesterday's session, 650 shares at Lm5.95 and 1,014 shares at Lm5.98 were the best unsatisfied bids and offers respectively.

The other equities which traded during the week appear below, followed by the range in which trading took place; 900 Lombard Bank shares at Lm4.00; 11,662 Middlesea Insurance shares between Lm2.20 and Lm2.15; 2,000 Simonds Farsons Cisk shares between Lm0.90 and Lm0.899; 44,469 International Hotels Investments shares between €0.85 and €0.81; 1,000 Plaza Centres plc Ordinary Shares at Lm0.67; 99,370 Malta International Airport shares between Lm0.85 and Lm0.81; 1,570 Global Financial Services Group plc shares at Lm0.88; and 13,300 Datatrak Holdings plc shares between Lm0.250 and Lm0.249.

Total Malta Government Stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of Lm151,400 being traded in 30 deals over 15 different stocks. Trading over the week in Corporate Bonds was made up of a total value of Lm59,030.

The Malta Stock Exchange share index increased by 21 points or 0.86 per cent over the week and now stands at 2,455.636.
