David Farrugia will figure in a play-off for third place in the Raffa singles today after qualifying to the semi-finals of the competition in Pescara thanks to a 12-4 win over Tunisia's Mohamed Sadok Zaidi in a decisive group match yesterday morning.

Farrugia had a chance to make sure of a medal in this competition but was ousted from the last four stage by the more-quoted Emilio Benedetti. The Italian beat Farrugia 12-0.

Today, Farrugia plays against Turkey player Caner Makara for the bronze medal. Makara was beaten 12-6 by San Marino's Matteo Albani.

Earlier in the day, Clive Farrugia finished 11th in the skeet competition. Having ended the opening day with a 69 (22-24-23), Farrugia hit 23 and a 25-straight in his final two qualifying rounds for a creditable total of 117, the same as Egypt's Franco Donato.

Italian Valerio Luchini and Cyprus's Georgios Achilleos set a new Games record in qualifying after amassing a remarkable 124 in the first five rounds, just one clay short of a perfect score.

Luchini and Achilleos bettered the previous best mark of 122, set by the latter in Almeria four years ago, by two points.

However, it was Italian Ennio Falco who successfully defended the gold medal he won in 2005 when he fired a 25-straight in the barrage to secure top spot with a new Games record of 148.

Achilleos grabbed silver (147) after a shoot-off with France's Anthony Terras. Luchini was fourth on 146.

In golf, Andy Borg played a second successive par of 72 on the final day of the golf competition at the Miglianico Club.

He finished 13th overall (294, six over), just one shot behind Frederic Abadie (France) and Antonio Hortal Ochoa (Spain).

Chris Bergedahl had a three over round yesterday to finish 25th with 324 (36 over) while John J. Micallef Verelst was 34th after an 82 score for an overall 340 (52 over).

The gold medal was won by Slovenia's Tim Gornik. Italy's Filippo Bergamaschi was second and France's Nicolas Peyrichou third.

In the team competition, Malta moved up one place to finish eighth (617, 41 over). Italy took gold (570, six under) ahead of France and Turkey.

Weather conditions were slightly better yesterday and two races from the Laser Radial event were held.

Maya Podesta had two 11th placings to remain 13th overall. France's Sophie Turckheim is still ahead of the others in the regatta. Another two races are scheduled for today.

Camilleri will race in the first heat along with Maximilian Benassi (Italy), Jernej Zupancic (Slovenia), Matthaios Syrigos (Turkey), Orcun Karaoglanoglu (Turkey), Elie Mahfouz (Libya) and Diego Cosgaya Noriego (Spain).
