The Singles League has now reached its very final stages and will draw to a definite close on Sunday at St Martin's.

Contested by 26 players, the participants were graded into five divisions, according to their standard of play. Males and females competed against each other in the same division, each played on a league format.

The First Division issue is still open. With all six participants having played four matches each, the provisional standings are led by Kenneth Vella who has a maximum 12 points. He is closely followed by Stefan Salomone, similarly undefeated, with 10 points, having won three and drawn one of his matches. Their encounter on Sunday should decide the final destination of the title.

The Second Division winner is Martin Farrugia. He has maximum points from four matches. In his final fixture, Farrugia beat Daniel Abdilla 15-10, 15-3. Jacqueline De Giovanni, whose only upset was against Farrugia, took the runner-up berth. She won two and drew one of her last three fixtures.

Christopher Spiteri topped the Third Division, also with maximum points from five matches. In his final fixture, he defeated direct contender Albert Bezzina 15-6, 15-12.

The situation in the Fourth Division is still undecided. All six participants have played three times each and have two others fixtures to play on Sunday. Keith Mallia, who is unbeaten and has nine points, leads the provisional table ahead of Rinaldo D'Alessandro with seven points. Third place is occupied by Adrian Chetcuti.

Due to a limited number of participants, the Fifth Division is the only category to be played over two rounds. It was contested by only three players after an injury to Dennis Borg. Mark Briffa leads the table with six points at the end of the first round.

In each division, if two or more players finish on equal points at the top, the winner's title will be awarded according to the overall result of their direct encounter(s).

If this is insufficient, a decider, this time over the best of three sets, will be played.
