All court cases due to be heard by Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco have been reassigned.

The development follows the announcement a week ago today that the Commission for the Administration of Justice had found prima facie proven misbehaviour by the judge when he stayed on as president of the Malta Olympic Committee.

The committee submitted its report following an impeachment motion presented in December 2012 by then Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.

The committee had been rapped by the International Olympic Committee over alleged irregular sale of tickets for the Olympic games. The Justice Commission found that the judge was not involved.

Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco had turned up in court as usual on Tuesday and the PN subsequently called on him not to hear cases while his impeachment case is pending.

Cases are assigned by the Chief Justice.

Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco is contesting the validity of Dr Gonzi's impeachment motion. The parliamentary House Business Committee is due to decide later this morning, but the Parliamentary Secretary for Justice, Owen Bonnici, has declared that if the motion is not valid, a new one will be moved.
