Government MP Godfrey Farrugia has been released from Mater Dei Hospital following a series of tests after he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

He is now awaiting an appointment for surgery in London and will continue to serve as the Labour Party Whip until the operation.

This will involve a radical prostatectomy to remove the prostate gland and some of the surrounding tissue.

He is then expected to resume his parliamentary duties a few weeks after the procedure.
