Sentencing a farmer to 18 years in prison for cultivating marijuana plants seems quite extreme by European standards. In England it would have been a sentence of about three years at the most.

There was also an accusation that the statement made to the police was dictated to him by the police themselves, which the police denied. Here in England and in most of the civilised world, an interview between police and suspect is always done with a lawyer present.

Isn't it about time Malta introduced such a system for interviews? After all it's only fair to have a witness present.
