A sewage overflow at Old College Street, Sliema over the past few days was caused by a blockage in the main connecting San Gwann and Ta’ Giorni, the Water Services Corporation said.

It said that an examination of the material causing the blockage revealed considerable quantities of straw. This showed that a farm or someone who reared horses could be the possible source.

It said that until the blockage was rectified, its workers helped clean the road, private residences and other affected areas

It appealed to the public not to dump any unauthorised materials, such as oils, fats, rags and straw, into the sewer system.

The public was also encouraged to report abuse on customercare@wsc.com.mt .
