Indian versions of some of the country’s favourite traditional dishes, including Yorkshire pudding and Lancashire hotpot, will be offered to mark National Curry Week which kicked off yesterday in the UK. Recipes were created after a survey of more than 2,000 adults by Cobra beer revealed the most popular regional food, ranging from Welsh rarebit to haggis.

An Indian “twist” on the 10 most popular dishes will be available in hundreds of restaurants taking part in Curry Week.

Yorkshire pudding topped the poll, followed by Cornish pasties, Devon cream teas and Cumberland sausages.

The first curry house opened in Britain in 1810.
