NAXXAR LIONS-0, MOSTA-1

Dyson Falzon struck the winner early in the second half as Mosta beat rivals Naxxar Lions 1-0 in the derby.

Mosta deserved their victory as they dominated the second half with Falzon leading the charge to condemn the relegation-threatened Lions to another defeat.
Notable chances were few and far between in a drab first half.

Mosta began the second half in brisk mode. They seized the lead 10 minutes after the restart thanks to Dyson Falzon who hit home from close in after Tyrone Farrugia nodded James Brincat's free-kick into the Mosta winger's path.

The Blues were now in command as Naxxar were unable to find the energy and willpower to make a reaction.

Midway into the second half, Falzon traded passes with Mensha but his angled drive was deflected away for a corner.

Okonkwo blasted high from the edge of the box.

The Lions had to wait until 11 minutes from time to create a chance. Substitute Duane Bonnici provided a good cross from the left but Toure headed wide.

Mosta also had a good chance to seal the points but Adrian Borg, who had replaced the injured Kyle Frendo, headed against the post from Okonkwo's corner.

It was only in the closing stages that Naxxar finally made a reaction but it was too late.

Buhagiar rifled high and wide but, from a quick counter-attack, Mosta should have killed it as the sprinting Mensha burst clear before picking out Saviour Fidelis who scuffed his shot.

Falzon, the Mosta winger, was voted BOV player of the match.
