The Roman Catholic world today celebrated Good Friday, the passion and crucifixion of Our Lord.

Many fasted throughout the day and thousands, including tourists, visited seven churches, with believers praying at every stop.

In the evening, many took part in the traditional Good Friday processions, held in several localities around the islands.

Besides men and women in costume to depict scenes from the crucifixion, and statues representing the stages of the Lord's passion, men and women fulfilling vows carried large wooden crosses and heavy chains.

Many also walked barefoot, some on their knees.
