Institute of Engineering and Technology president Chris Earnshaw recently visited the University's Faculty of Engineering where he met dean Robert Ghirlando, department heads and members of the Electrical and Mechanical engineering departments.

The IET is represented in Malta by the Group of Professional Engineers and Cyril Spiteri Staines is the IET contact person at the faculty. Last year the faculty introduced a new three-year B. Eng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering, a new three-year B. Eng. (Hons) in Elec-trical and Electronics Engineering, and a new four-year Bachelor (Hons) in Industrial Engineering.

The next step is to introduce taught postgraduate Masters to complement the existing Masters by research.

Some departments are also working on International Masters courses which are jointly run with other European universities.
