A high-profile Facebook protest has scored a victory for consumers in Israel - a dramatic drop in the price of cottage cheese.

Over two weeks, more than 105,000 people joined a Facebook group vowing to boycott the cheese until prices dropped.

The campaign touched a nerve among Israelis concerned about rising prices and stagnant salaries.

The three large Israeli dairy companies that control the market agreed to lower the price of a 250-gram (half-pound) container to £1.08 after it had risen to close to 1.42.

Today's newspapers carried headlines such as: "We Won," and "Cottage Cheese Victory."
