Concern is growing about anti-immigrant Facebook comments that appear to threaten violence against Maltese citizens and migrants.

The Sunday Times of Malta was forwarded a complaint made to the police last Thursday by Maria Pisani and Ritianne Ellul regarding comments posted on the Daqshekk għall-Immigrazzjoni Llegali f’Malta (Enough illegal immigration to Malta) Facebook group.

The pair sent screenshots to the police which showed threats against themselves and their families, as well as “clear examples of incitement to racial hatred and violence”.

The complaints specifically referred to a photo posted of themselves by one user who referred to them as “traitors” and threatened to harm their families and make an example of their children.

Another comment encouraged people to shoot Muslims.
