The demands of the forthcoming Formula One season have resulted in a technical management reshuffle at McLaren.

With a record-breaking 20 grands prix on the calendar this year, McLaren are determined to ensure their resources are not spread too thinly.

Former engineering director Paddy Lowe has taken on the position of technical director with a broad remit that will see him spearhead new and innovative projects regarding the team's F1 future.

Filling Lowe's vacancy as director of engineering will be Tim Goss, who was McLaren's chief engineer for last year's car, the MP4-25.

Lowe and Goss will now work closely with Neil Oatley, who has been with the team since 1986, and who continues in his role as director of design and development programmes.

Explaining the reshuffle, Lowe said: "It's great for Neil and I to be joined by Tim as another director on the technical side.

"With the three of us, we'll not only be able to more efficiently spread our workload, but through Tim and I, we'll also share race attendance.

"It's very important to have senior technical management at the racetrack because that's where you score the points.

"But equally, if you spend all your time away then you risk overlooking some of the hard work that happens back at the factory."
