An extreme triathlon weekend is to be held at the end of next month in and around the Majjistral Park.

Nathan Farrugia, one of the organisers, said Hellfire Challenge 2010, as the event is called, will include a 9km offroad trail run on Saturday 28 August, and a triathlon on the following day. The triathlon will include a full distance of 1km swim, 20km bike and 8km run, as well as a half distance and a team relay.

The challenge will be held entirely offroad and requires no traffic management. It is being organised within strict eco-friendly parameters including biodegradable route markings, clean-up of the venue and a zero-tolerance to race littering.

Hellfire is working towards becoming a recognised Xterra Event which will bring hundreds of international competitors to Malta and Gozo. Xterra is an international franchise that organises sporting challenges and events akin to the famous Ironman races, however they are more accessible due to their lower entry cost, a shorter distance, and include a variety of events over the weekend.

More information can be found at www.hellfiretriathlon.com or by joining the Facebook group Triathlon Malta.

Participants are being encouraged to fundraise over and above their entry fee for Inspire.
