An expression of interest for the running of Malta Film Studios (MFS) will be published on Thursday, Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis announced yesterday.

Dr Zammit Lewis said the project by the MFS would entail building, redeveloping, maintenance and running of the 90,000 square metres film studios site. The minister said the government would prefer a public-private partnership and that the concession would last 10 years.

The minister said he hoped the film industry would have contributed up to €100 million to the economy by the end of the year.

Last year, the industry boosted the economy by €29 million and in 2013 this figure stood at €5 million, he said.
