The leading article on the Planning Authority’s decision to clear the building of a fireworks factory in Għarb (January 3) rightly said there is “anger over senseless decision”.

While I agree that there should be anger at such scandalous decisions, I would say that, by now, we should have got used to such decisions.

The PA’s decision falls in line with today’s government policies: to abide by the promises it made to the businessmen who visited the fourth floor of the Labour Party’s headquarters prior to the 2013 election.

Of course, promises have to be kept.

Another aspect of the matter is the rising cost of living: importers of fireworks material have also felt the pinch of rising costs, so one has to keep these people in mind, I think.

A few days later (January 9),  this newspaper carried a front-page article saying Nationalist Party leader Adrian Delia still owes the taxman €64,000 (chicken feed by today’s standards).

May I suggest to the PN to hold a fundraising marathon so faithful party members can collect money for this cause? The amount raised will reflect the extent of the support Delia enjoys at present because there is some confusion as to the backing he truly enjoys.

Perhaps this might settle the question once and for all since dissidents will surely stay away.
