An explosion at the St Joseph Fireworks Factory last night brought out scores of residents into the streets to see what had happened. No one was at the factory at the time of the incident.

The explosion which occurred at about 11.45 in a courtyard in the factory's compound brought down a wall of one of the rooms nearby.

Members of the AFM's bomb disposal unit were on site together with personnel from the Civil Protection Department. Also on site was an ambulance and district police from Żejtun.
