The European Union will pay €30,000 for a chartered Air Malta plane which carried the prime minister to Brussels for an EU summit on March 24, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said in parliament this evening.

He was replying to a question by Labour MP Joe Mizzi who asked him to confirm that after a private executive jet suffered technical problems, an Air Malta plane was used to take the Prime Minister to Brussels. He asked who took the decision, how many passengers were on board the outward and return flights and the costs.

Mr Fenech said the EU would pay the cost of €30,000 for the flight. Air Malta, he said, charged the same tariff as for charter flights to similar destinations. There were four passengers on the outward flight and none on the return.
