The law regulating the sale of exotic animals will go up for Cabinet approval in the coming days, the Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Rights said this morning.

Roderick Galdes was speaking during a conference about animal rights which brought together all the relevant stakeholders.

It was also revealed than an information campaign will be launched in schools and local councils in the coming days to raise awareness about animal rights. Thanks to EU funding, the campaign will launch a freephone number (1717) where one can report cases of animal cruelty.

The announcement comes a week after a tiger injured a young boy at the illegal Montekristo zoo.
