The forthcoming Malta-Sicily Windsurf Race - 20 Years After has secured the backing of its traditional sponsors. The Bank of Valletta who, together with the Banca di Sicilia were the main sponsors of the Malta-Sicily Windsurf Race between 1984 and 1994, are maintaining their association with this popular event.

"This is very significant. With their support, BOV have contributed to the growth and success of the race and was always respected as integrated partner of the Pozzallo event throughout its ten-year span," Wilfred Sultana, the event's organiser, remarked.

"In this regard, it is most pleasant that this association is also revived on this particular 20th anniversary manifestation."

Further to BOV, the Malta-Sicily Windsurf Race - 20 Years After, scheduled for the third weekend of September, has also secured the support of a number of other sponsors. These include S & D Yachts, Globalair Travel & Tourism, the Casinò di Venezia and H2 Only drinking water.

Each of these sponsors will also be extending their professional resources and facilities towards the general organisation of the 93km long distance classic race.

Last week, representatives of the various sponsors met with members of the organising committee where they were briefed about the latest developments related to this race.

The four competing windsurfers will be escorted by a support fleet of seven yachts including 'Rockline'. Besides having provided 'escort' in all 10 editions of the Pozzallo Race, this 23-years-old yacht escorted Jean Paul Fleri Soler, eventual winner of the first edition in 1984 when he established the event's best record time of 5hrs 56mins 35secs.

The Malta-Sicily Windsurf Race - 20 Years After is also going to be used as a platform to raise funds in aid of the Park of Friendship (Ir-Razzett Tal-Hbiberija).
