I had a strange dream last night.  I dreamt about the Parable of the Prodigal Son, where the youngest son wanted to opt out and leave and ask for his share of the inheritance. We all know how this ended.

He did leave and enjoyed the good life at first, but soon afterwards when he had squandered all he had. He lost it all.

Once he had reached rock bottom he then realised his mistake and decided to go back to his father, forget about his pride and ask for forgiveness and at least be treated as one of his father’s employees.

Being the just father that he was, he welcomed back his son with open arms, dressed him up in the finest clothes and they all then celebrated the return of his youngest son. In my dream I realised that Britain was the prodigal son.  He too wanted to opt out and leave and take his inheritance. However, this time he decided that what the EU wanted to give him, was not good enough for him and he would rather do without.

Of course, like the prodigal son, Britain too would eventually end up with nothing and with no more friends among all the other countries in the EU. Britain would also decide to swallow up its pride and return to the EU family and ask for forgiveness and the EU, like the good and just father in the parable, would welcome it back with open arms and together they would all celebrate the return of Britain the prodigal son.

When I woke up I realised that this might not happen now, but it surely will, I say and, by the next generation.
