Eurostar, the high-speed passenger train service linking Britain to mainland Europe, reported a 2.4 per cent rise in third-quarter sales despite the Channel Tunnel's closure for two days last month due to a fire on a freight train.

Eurostar said sales rose to £152.3 million, and passenger numbers rose 6.4 per cent.

The company said it carried 2.27 million passengers from July to September, adding the rise occurred "despite Euro-tunnel's closure of the Channel Tunnel on September 11 and 12, which caused a reduced level of Eurostar services for the rest of the month."
