The European Commission this afternoon condemned the car bomb murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia and said it was "horrified" by yesterday's events.
A statement made on behalf of Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and the commission praised Ms Caruana Galizia for her ‘dedication for the truth’ and her pioneering investigative work.
The right of a journalist to investigate, ask uncomfortable questions and report is at the heart of our values and needs to be guaranteed at all times,” the statement read.
“We trust now that justice will be done, although that will not be enough to right this wrong,” the commission said while expressing its condolences.
Mr Juncker is tomorrow due to hold his first meeting with Opposition leader Adrian Delia on the fringes of a meeting of the European Popular Party.
