The 15th edition of the European Airports Football Tournament was inaugurated at Ta’ Qali this morning.
The tournament, this year being hosted by MIA, includes the participation of reigning champions London City Airport and the airports of Bratsk, Dublin, Frankfurt, Hannover, Krakow, Lyon, Moscow Domodedovo, Moscow Aeromar Sheremetyevo, Munich, Munster/Osnabruck, Nice Cote d’Azur and Vienna International.
The games continue until Sunday.
MIA's team played its first round matches and ended up second in the Group. In the first match, the Malta Airport team drew against Krakow, then won its remaining matches 3-0 against Munster/Osnabruck and 2-0 against Dublin.
Malta Airport got 7 points as did Krakow, but the latter had a better goal average and so placed first and Malta second.
First match for MIA in the second round tomorrow is against Frankfurt who placed first in their respective group.
