About €8,000 in cash were stolen in an early morning hold-up at the Mellieħa Bay Hotel yesterday.

The police said three armed and hooded men surprised three employees - two reception staff and a night porter - at about 2.30 a.m.

General manager Franz Tabone said their hands were bound with cable ties and one of the employees also had his feet tied.

The police said one of the staff sustained a blow but was not injured. The three were treated for shock.
