A group of EU-Nationals who live in Malta this morning gathered outside the Auberge de Castille in Valletta to deliver a petition to the Prime Minister complaining that they are being discriminated against.

They said the Government remained silent despite the fact that they were being discriminated against by being charged between 35 and 60 per cent more than their Maltese neighbours for several basic services.

The petition, signed by 1,120 people, went on to list these services that include utility bills, public transport, car registration, home loans, television and internet services and e-residence cards.

Scottish national Patricia Graham said it was disappointing to see how the new Labour Government had not said anything about these injustices faced by EU Nationals living in Malta.

Wearing a badge displaying a cartoon of a cow with  the words “cash cow” printed near it, she said: “EU Nationals are being treated as an extra source of income… my euro is worth as much as your euro”.

Mr Graham, who has been living in Malta for five years, has also helped foster several Maltese children.

She finds it disappointing that the Maltese Government then imposes higher bills onto her, an EU citizen, just because she is not Maltese.
