Malta’s absorption of EU funds was 78 per cent by the end of 2014, up from 30 per cent in March 2013, Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg said yesterday.

Speaking outside Mater Dei Hospital, Dr Borg said the Oncology Hospital had absorbed €44 million, the Life Sciences Complex took €20 million, the digital hub €4.4 million and the extension of the hospital emergency ward €8.9 million. All these projects will be completed by the end of the year.

He said that in the past two years Malta had used €372 million in EU structural funds from the 2007-2013 programme.
