European Union governments and the European Parliament have agreed on new rules requiring airlines to include taxes, charges and other fees when advertising to consumers.

The rules, which update existing legislation in the aviation sector, also include requirements for strict monitoring of carriers' operating licences and rules on "wet leasing", the practice of operating a flight using another company's plane and crew.

"From now on passengers will enjoy the benefits of the single market and will receive complete information on the exact ticket prices," Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot said.
