The Employment and Training Corporation (ETC) said today that it was giving private sector companies the opportunity to evaluate potential employees prior to the actual recruitment. through the Work Trial Scheme (WTS).

Through this scheme, ETC places jobseekers with companies for three months and covers half of the minimum wage for the whole period. The companies offer their potential employees work exposure for at least 20 hours per week.

In this way, the ETC said, job seekers could benefit from practical work experience and have an opportunity to upgrade their skills in line with the needs of the labour market. Companies would be able to train and mould a potential employee before the actual recruitment.

Companies who didn’t have any redundancies for six months before their application for this scheme are eligible. Each company cannot take more than four jobseekers per calendar year.
