Ericsson, the leading innovative telecommunications solutions provider worldwide, recently successfully organised the fifth Awards of Excellence in Telecommunications, remaining faithful to its commitment to empower the academic and research society of Malta.
Within the framework of the institution, an Evaluation University Committee is formed in order to choose graduate and post-graduate (Doctoral or Master Level) theses relevant to telecommunications and award them in a special event organised by Ericsson.
The awards include money prizes as well as a visit of the awarded students to the Ericsson headquarters in Sweden. The students are given the opportunity to get in contact with the leading innovative telecommunications company with over 130 years of history, gaining thus valuable insights at the onset of their career.
This year ministerial officials as well as telecommunication industry's representatives were present at the ceremony where six students - four graduates and two post- graduates - received their awards and presented their theses.
John Gionas, director, Wireline, Government and Networked Enterprise Account of Ericsson Greece, Cyprus, Albania and Malta, stated in his introductory speech: "Ericsson empowers the important contribution of the new generation in the development of the telecommunications' field and rewards students for their innovative vision. Telecommunications can lead to sustainable development and a better future for everybody and these students can be the vehicle for the achievement of this goal."
