HSBC shares witnessed a decrease of 54c9 during the week after Monday's trading session opened at Lm6.999, while Thursday's session closed at Lm6.45. A total of 25,970 shares changed hands over 22 deals. 1,000 shares at Lm 6.45 and 2,100 at Lm 6.75 were the best unsatisfied bids and offers respectively after Thursday's session came to a close.

Meanwhile, Maltacom shares opened the week at Lm 1.67 on Monday, and closed the week's trading at Lm1.62 on Thursday. A total of 60,387 shares changed hands over the week, spread over 43 deals.

Following Thursday's session, best bids of 1,500 shares at Lm1.58 and best offers of 5,000 shares at Lm1.599 remained outstanding.

Bank of Valletta shares opened the week at Lm3.38 on Monday and closed the week's trading at Lm3.35 on Thursday. A total of 15,291 shares changed hands over the week, spread over 30 deals. Following Thursday's session, best bids of 150 shares at Lm3.33 and best offers of 1,000 shares at Lm3.345 remained outstanding.

The Malta Stock Exchange Share Index decreased by 102.133 points or 3.73 per cent over the week and now stands at 2,635.024. There was a decline in the closing price of most equities especially that of HSBC which dropped 7.844 per cent during the week.

The other equities which witnessed decreases throughout the week included Malta International Airport (4.444 per cent), Maltacom (2.994 per cent), Simonds Farsons Cisk (1.031 per cent) and Bank of Valletta (0.888 per cent).

In a company announcement issued on Tuesday, the board of directors of Lombard Bank Malta plc said that all the five resolutions discussed on its agenda on April 5 have been approved. Following this meeting, the board of directors of is made up of Mr C. Lemmerich (chairman), Mr J. M. Demajo, Mr G. A. Fairclough, Mr G. Maiga, Mr J. Said, Mr V. Vellano and Mr M. Zammit.

In another company announcement issued on Thursday, the board of directors of Malta International Airport plc said that they shall be meeting on Wednesday, June 9 to consider and approve the financial results for the year ended March 31, 2004; and to consider the declaration of a dividend to be recommended to the annual general meeting.

The other equities which traded during the week, followed by the range in which trading took place were; 1,432 Lombard Bank plc shares at Lm 4.16; 33,384 Middlesea Insurance shares between Lm2.32 and Lm2.299; 80,050 Simonds Farsons Cisk plc shares between Lm0.97 and Lm0.96; 30,000 International Hotels Investments shares at €0.77; 25,000 Plaza Centres plc Ordinary Shares at Lm0.744; 41,545 Malta International Airport shares between Lm0.90 and Lm0.85; and 1,200 GloBAl Financial Services shares at Lm0.87.

Total Malta Government Stock turnover amounted to a nominal value of Lm178,800 being traded in 32 deals over 13 different stocks. Trading over the week in corporate bonds was made up of a total value of Lm297,439.
