Equine specialists from the Transport and Welfare Studies Association (TAWS)will be revisiting Malta on Monday to discuss with several ministers the plight of horses, especially those carrying the karozzini.

The Animal Rights Group said in a statement that TAWS is a member society of the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA).

It specialises in investigating management aspects of all types with working animals. The organisation first came to Malta last November, at WSPA's request following countless reports from tourists and local animal lovers about the conditions horses werebeing forced to work in.

Following their visit, a report and recommendations were forwarded to the relevant departments but "due to a misleading written statement from the Ministry of Infrastructure and lack of cooperation from other ministries, the horses are still without the necessary basic requirements set by EU Regulations," the ARG said.
